What is low blood glucose (sugar)?

Low blood glucose, or low blood sugar, is called hypoglycemia. It is when your blood glucose is below 70 mg/dL.

Low blood glucose should be treated right away

Your blood glucose might be low if you:

  • are dizzy or have headaches

  • have weakness or fatigue (feeling tired)

  • are shaking, sweating, or have a fast heartbeat

  • have vision changes

  • are feeling anxious or irritable

  • are hungry

If you think your blood glucose level is too low, use a blood glucose meter to check it.
