1. Wash your hands with soap and warm water
Avoid alcohol wipes
2. Check the insulin medication name and expiration date
Check your healthcare team’s instructions to make sure you have the right medication

Right time
There are many different kinds of insulin. Each insulin stays in your body for a different length of time. Some pens look alike so always check the medication name.
3. Remove the cap of the pen
4. Wipe the tip of the pen with an alcohol wipe

5. Attach the needle to the tip of the pen and twist
6. Remove the needle cap
7. Perform a safety test to remove air bubbles
Set your dose to 2
Push the button to release medication
You will know pen is safe if you see a medication drop or stream on the needle
8. Dial your dose in the dose window
Each device works differently
9. Choose injection site
Good injection sites are your abdomen, your thigh, or the back of your arm

10. Pinch the chosen site and clean it with an alcohol pad
Wait 10 seconds until the alcohol is dry

11. Inject the insulin
Make sure to insert at a 90 degree angle

12. Push the button and count to 10 seconds
13. Remove the pen
14. Replace the needle cover
15. Remove the needle from the pen
A new needle is screwed on every time that you use the pen
Do not reuse the pen needle
