How should I store my insulin pens?

New (unused) pens:

  • Keep new pens in the fridge until you are ready to use them.

  • Throw away insulin pens that are past their expiration dates, even if they were stored in the fridge.

Used pens:

  • Keep used pens at room temperature in your kitchen or bedroom.

  • Keep away from light and heat.

  • Check each insulin pen’s guide to see how long each type of insulin lasts at room temperature. They may not be the same.

  • Never store your pen with the needle on.
